There is a known epidemic in the world today, especially predominant in the US-obesity. That means you can supplement more for less. Many supplements are totally out of the question for me as a WLS patient, because they contain HUGE amounts of calories, fat, & carbs! But the difference today from then: sugar is now highly processed and in abundant supply.

This chemical alteration prevents the digestive system from recognizing and absorbing it, so it doesn’t cause the rise in blood sugar and insulin associated with sucrose (sugar).

However its just temporary if you are eating mainly simple carbs like sugar.

Splenda, the brand-name version of sucralose, has changed the world in terms of artificial sweeteners, through an incredibly effective marketing campaign, with the slogan “made from sugar, so it tastes like sugar”. The implications of this discovery are that (so long as we actually listen and adhere to the messages our bodies are sending our brains) continuing to eat foods sweetened with regular sugar helps with natural weight loss whereas eating so-called “diet” foods sweetened with artificial sweeteners hinders those efforts and increases the likelihood that we will habitually overindulge.

When we eat white flour products, breads, pasta, crackers, the refined flour turns to glucose (sugar) in the body quickly, which signals the pancreas to release a spike of insulin, and then causing the body to store fat. An indicator of how quickly the body turns foods to glucose is called the Glycemic Index, and it is already appearing on food labels.

Like in all things, an excess can bring on side-effects. Some side effects of a Low Carb or Ketogenic Diet may include kidney stones and gall stones, some women may have menstrual irregularities.
